DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Dr Joan-Paula Bor-Malenya” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]Joan-Paula Bor-Malenya is a public health specialist with a special interest in non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and 15 years professional experience in the Kenyan public health sector\, including over 10 years in clinical care and hospital management. \nShe is currently the Lead for the Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Pillar in the National Cancer Control Program (NCCP)\, Ministry of Health. Her role involves developing and implementing policies and programs towards the achievement of the National Cancer Control Strategy. She coordinated the development of the National Cancer Screening Guidelines in 2018 and is keen to see through the advancement of a harmonized cancer screening program nationwide. She also coordinates the National Technical Working Group on Cancer Prevention\, Early Detection & Screening. Dr Bor holds a Master of Science in Global Health & Non-Communicable Diseases from University of Edinburgh.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Dr Eric Hungu” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]Eric Hungu is a surgeon based at Kenyatta National Hospital\, the biggest referral hospital in East Africa. He runs a reputable breast clinic at the hospital. He undertook a one-year sub-specialty training in Breast and Endocrine Surgery at The University of Cape Town in 2017. \nHe has been involved in the drafting of National Cancer Screening Guidelines and National Cancer Treatment Protocols as an advisor to the Ministry of Health\, under the National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP). He also serves in the Surgical Society of Kenya National Council having served in various capacities since 2011. \nDr. Hungu completed his Masters training in General Surgery at the University of Nairobi in 2011. Subsequently\, he was posted to Lodwar where he worked for one year as the District Surgeon: the only surgeon between South Sudan and Eldoret. During this period\, he was on the panel of the AMREF Flying Doctors where he would carry out week long surgical outreach initiatives in the remote areas that have no access to surgeons. Hospitals he visited during this stint include Hola\, Mpeketoni\, and Mandera.\nHe was later transferred to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital in Kayole\, where he worked for a year before he was employed at the Kenyatta National Hospital\, as a Medical Specialist. \nHe completed his undergraduate training at the University of Nairobi in 2003\, and worked as an intern at Nyeri PGH\, prior to his posting to Maralal\, in Samburu County as a Medical Officer. \nDr. Eric is passionate in ensuring every Kenyan receives healthcare and ensures he makes a positive impact through interactions with his patients.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”Dr Daniel Gathege (Moderator)” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]Daniel Gathege is the General Surgery Unit Head and COSECSA Program Director at Kenyatta University Teaching Referral and Research Hospital. \nHe holds a Masters of Medicine in Surgery from the Aga Khan University. \nDr Gathege has an interest in addressing the increasing surgical burden and the unmet need in surgical oncology in the region. \nWebinar Recording\n[vc_video link=”https://vimeo.com/873830938″][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
