DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nDr Sitna Ali Mwanzi\nSitna Ali Mwanzi is a consultant medical oncologist working at the Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi Kenya. \nShe obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Nairobi and Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine from the Aga Khan University Hospital\, Nairobi. She undertook a fellowship in Medical Oncology at Barts Health NHS Trust in the United Kingdom attaining a Specialist Certificate in Medical Oncology from the Royal College of Physicians and Association of Cancer Physicians in the United Kingdom. She also has a Master of Science in Advanced Oncology from Ulm University in Germany. \nHer research interests in breast cancer\, lung cancer and CML. \nDr Eric Hungu\nEric Hungu is a surgeon based at Kenyatta National Hospital\, the biggest referral hospital in East Africa. He runs a reputable breast clinic at the hospital. He undertook a one-year sub-specialty training in Breast and Endocrine Surgery at The University of Cape Town in 2017. \nHe has been involved in the drafting of National Cancer Screening Guidelines and National Cancer Treatment Protocols as an advisor to the Ministry of Health\, under the National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP). He also serves in the Surgical Society of Kenya National Council having served in various capacities since 2011. \nDr. Hungu completed his Masters training in General Surgery at The University of Nairobi in 2011. Subsequently\, he was posted to Lodwar where he worked for one year as the District Surgeon: the only surgeon between South Sudan and Eldoret. During this period\, he was on the panel of the AMREF Flying Doctors where he would carry out week long surgical outreach initiatives in the remote areas that have no access to surgeons. Hospitals he visited during this stint include Hola\, Mpeketoni\, and Mandera. \nHe was later transferred to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital in Kayole\, where he worked for a year before he was employed at the Kenyatta National Hospital\, as a Medical Specialist. \nHe completed his undergraduate training at the University of Nairobi in 2003\, and worked as an intern at Nyeri PGH\, prior to his posting to Maralal\, in Samburu County as a Medical Officer. \nDr. Eric is passionate in ensuring every Kenyan receives healthcare and ensures he makes a positive impact through interactions with his patients. \nProfessor Mohsen Mokhtar\nMohsen Mokhtar is a Professor of Clinical Oncology in Al-Kasr Al-Aini Medical School and Cairo University\, Cairo Egypt. Prof Mokhtar assisted in developing the syllabus and course structure at Al-Kasr Al-Aini\, as well as\, supervised several research programs and theses. \nProf Mokhtar is the managing Director of Cairo University Center of Oncology and Nuclear Medicine NEMROCK and the President of CANSURVIVE. \nProf Mokhtar has published more than 50 articles in several regional magazines in topics including: breast\, lung\, pediatric\, colorectal\, ovarian malignancies NHL and hematologic malignancies. Professionally\, he has more than 20 years of experience in hospital management. He is currently the chief medical director in Elaj group covering the clinical and medical audit of group facilities. \nDr Irene Weru (Moderator)\nIrene Weru has worked at Kenyatta National Hospital since 2003 and is current head of clinical pharmacy. \nDr. Weru holds a master’s degree in Clinical Pharmacy with sub-specialization in oncology pharmacy from the University of Nairobi. \nDr. Weru is a member of various National and international technical working groups including Demand Forecasting and Quantification TWG of the Coalition for Access to NCD Medicines\, ChemoSafe Regional TWG\, Pharmacy Advisory Council -Global HOPE Pediatric Hematology /Oncology Centers of Excellence and NCI-Kenya Quality Management Expert Working Group. \nDr. Weru is a member of several professional associations including HOPAK\, PSK\, KESHO and ISOPP. She is the current Secretary to the International Society of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners (ISOPP). \nBesides oncology\, Dr. Weru has interest in medicines management and use especially medicine formulary management. She has a Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine from the University of Nairobi\, a M.Sc. in Clinical Oncology from Ulm University (Germany)\, and a Fellowship in Medical Oncology from the University of Nairobi. In addition\, she obtained a 5-year board certification in Medical Oncology from ESMO in 2019. She has over 17 years of experiences in hospital and clinical settings. \nShe is a member of the Kenya Society of Haematology and Oncology (KESHO)\, European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) and American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). She is also a fellow of the East\, Central and Southern Africa College of Physicians. \nHer core skills are in clinical decision making in internal medicine and oncology\, conducting trainings\, streamlining medical education and conducting research as well as participation in the development of treatment guidelines and protocols. \nDr McLigeyo currently provides comprehensive oncology healthcare at both public and private health facilities\, conducts research in oncology and internal medicine when opportunities arise\, and is engaged in teaching internal medicine and oncology at the Kenyatta University. She has authored several research articles in peer reviewed journals and presented abstracts at several conferences. \nDr Peter Oyiro\nPeter Oyiro is currently a Lecturer at the Department of Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics-The University of Nairobi. He also a consultant Physician and Medical Oncologist at the Kenyatta National Hospital Teaching and Referral Hospital\, Nairobi. DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column]    \n    	\n                	Speaker Profiles                \n        \n    \n    [vc_column_text]Professor Nicholas Othieno-Abinya \nNicholas Anthony Othieno-Abinya is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at the Nairobi Hospital Cancer Centre. He was formerly Professor of Medicine at the University of Nairobi\, Kenya\, where he was the director of Medical Oncology Fellowship Program and also the head of Haematology/Oncology at the University of Nairobi and Kenyatta National Hospital\, Nairobi. In 2009 and 2010 he was Head of Oncology at Aga Khan University Hospital\, Nairobi. \nHe holds a Master’s degree in Internal Medicine of the University of Nairobi\, completed fellowship in Medical Oncology at the Royal London Hospital (University of London) in 1992\, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. \nHis research interests are in malignant haematology and breast cancer\, in which he has published widely in peer-reviewed journals. He also has keen interest in molecular oncology. He has also authored a text book titled Drug Treatment of Haematologic Neoplasms. He has also co-authored cancer booklets\, and has written chapters in several books. His latest book titled ‘Shadow in Perpetuity’ by Lambert Publishers was released in December 2019. \nDr. Othieno-Abinya is a member of American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)\, and served in its International Affairs Committee from 2010-2012; Africa Organization for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC)\, having been Vice Chair for Eastern Africa and was a long time member of Council; and European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO). He founded Kenya Society of Haematology and Oncology (KESHO)\, of which he was the first Chair\, and is still its Patron. His outstanding academic achievements were profiled in the University of Nairobi magazine\,’ Varsity Focus’ of September 2017. \nHe has received several awards and honours\, including the Kenya Breast Health Programme Award in appreciation of contribution to success of the Breast Cancer Survivors’ Conference on 11-14 July 2003; Kenya Breast Health Programme Award in recognition for outstanding contribution to the care of women with breast cancer in Kenya; Best Oral Presentation by Established Scientist Award\, 2ND KASH Conference\, Kenya Medical Research Institute\, Nairobi;  2018 Harvard Global Health Catalyst: Distinguished African Ambassador Award. \nProfessor Fredrick Chite \nFredrick Chite Asirwa M.D. is the CEO of International Cancer Institute\, an organization whose main purpose is to expand Education\, Clinical Care and Training opportunities in cancer control and research across sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) through multi-sectoral collaborations and partnerships with relevant organizations both governmental and NGOs. \nHe is a Medical Oncologist & Hematologist\, PD/PI of several access to personalized cancer care and research initiatives including Blueprint Program (Kenya\, Rwanda\, Tanzania and Uganda)\, Shining Tower Program\, Clinical Trials Program-all geared towards enhancing early detection\, promoting primary HPV screening\, providing SOC diagnostics & therapeutics cancer research. He has developed several training programs including SSA Oncology Preceptorship training\, Digital Pathology Program\, Telemedicine Program\, Oncology training for Physician assistants (Clinical Officers)\, development of Oncology Nursing training program in Kenya\, Medical Oncology Fellowship Program\, Oncology Pharmacy program and assisted in the development of gynecologic oncology program. He also conducts Oncology and Hematology Clinical Trials in SSA. \nHe was previously (2011-2019)\, the Director of Academic Model Providing Access to Health Care (AMPATH Oncology & Hematology Consortium) in Kenya. In this role he developed infrastructure for telemedicine at AMPATH\, created a robust hematology & oncology outreach program in rural Kenya and participated in the development of the Kenya National Cancer Control policies\, strategic plans and guidelines by the National MOH. As PI to various clinical and research programs he established Multiple Myeloma program\, Lymphoma Program\, functional tumor registry\, Breast Cancer screening & treatment program\, Hemophilia and Sickle cell diagnostics\, treatment & research\, EMR for Oncology care and screening\, a multinational Lung Cancer Control Program\, MLCCP (Kenya\, South Africa\, Lesotho\, Tanzania\, and Eswatini). He also teaches at various Universities in SSA and participates in Scientific Review Committees (SRC) of various Oncology Clinical Trial Centers in SSA. \nDr Manel Haj Mansoor \nManel Haj is a Consultant Medical Oncologist and Section Head of Medical Oncology at Aga Khan University Hospital\, Nairobi. She is also the current Fellowship Program Director in The Department of Hematology Oncology. \nShe graduated from the University Tunis\, and undertook her Core Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology training the most prestigious University Hospitals in Tunisia where she received her certificate of completion in 2017. She has also received part of training at the Gustave Roussy Institute of cancer treatment in Paris\, France. \nShe has previously worked as consultant medical oncologist and lecturer at Abdurrahman Mami University Hospital\, Tunisia and at a leading health care facility in Nairobi. \nDr Haj is passionate about increasing cancer awareness and promoting screening and early detection. She has also a special interest in precision oncology and clinical research and is currently investigator in several clinical trials in the Cancer Research Unit at Aga Khan University Hospital. \nShe is a member of American (ASCO)\, European (ESMO) \,Tunisian and Kenyan societies of medical oncology ((STOM and KESHO). \nDr Lillian Ouma \nLilian Ouma holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) Degree from Moi University in Eldoret\, Kenya. As a medical doctor and current head of clinical research at the International Cancer Institute\, she provides oversight on various clinical research projects. In this capacity\, she is in charge of the management of both observational and interventional research projects\, in various therapeutic fields\, ensuring all study activities are conducted according to the study protocols. In her current capacity as the research manager\, she has played a pivotal role in the establishment of research processes/systems within the research unit. \nShe is tasked with the responsibility of coordinating the execution of clinical trial protocols\, overseeing participant recruitment and retention activities\, and executing clinical quality and data quality management plans. Moreover\, she has a host of skills in a wide range of study-related activities including preparation of study protocols\, study budgets\, site preparation for study start-up activities\, study site initiation and closeout\, development of research study SOPs\, quality management plan (QMP)\, informed consent forms (ICFs)\, and case report forms (CRFs). Her extensive understanding of the principles of clinical research and applicable regulations as well as in-depth knowledge of both local and global regulatory requirements have been instrumental in her current role. \nDr Naftali Busakhala (Moderator) \nNaftali Busakhala is a Senior Lecturer and specialist Physician at Moi University and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital. He is the departmental postgraduate coordinator at the department of pharmacology and toxicology at Moi University. He is the co-chairman of the Ampath Oncology working group. Dr Busakhala is the principal investigator of the AIDS Malignancy Consortium\, Moi University Site. He is also the principal investigator of the Lung and Breast Cancer Projects. \nHe is also a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Prevention and Research\, Lyon France. He has published widely in peer reviewed journals. \nDr Busakhala is the current President of the Kenya Society of Haematology and Oncology (KESHO). \nHe holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from Moi University and a Masters of Medicine in Internal Medicine from University of Nairobi. He also received post graduate training in Pharmacology  from Tianjin University China and Makerere University Uganda.
