Dr Ahmed Yakub Kalebi

Dr Ahmed Yakub Kalebi MBChB (Nbi), MMed Path (Nbi), FC Path (SA) Anat Path, FCPath (ECSA), is a Consultant Pathologist based in Kenya; and is the Founder, Managing Director/CEO of Lancet Group Laboratories in East Africa, which is the leading and largest independent private laboratory chain in the region that he started in October 2009 in Nairobi – now spread to over 60 laboratory branches and service points across East Africa.

He undertook his undergraduate medical degree and postgraduate training in general pathology at the University of Nairobi, followed by a Fellowship in Anatomical Pathology at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg South Africa, with additional elective trainings in gastrointestinal pathology at the University of Toronto in Canada and renal pathology at Oxford University England. He has previously served as the first Government Pathologist of North Eastern Province of Kenya at the Garissa Provincial General Hospital in 2005-2009.

He is a founding fellow of the College of Pathologists of East, Central and Southern Africa (COPECSA) for which he was and was the founding steering committee chairman in 2010. He is also a distinguished member of various professional associations including the Association of Pathologists of East, Central and Southern Africa (APECSA), the Kenya Association of Clinical Pathologists (KACP) and the Kenya Medical Association (KMA). He is the current President of the East African Division of the International Academy of Pathology (IAP) for which he was the founding secretary from 2008 to 2014.

He has received numerous professional awards including ‘Young Achievers Award’ from the Association of Pathologists of East Central and Southern Africa (APECSA) in 2006, inclusion in the ‘Who is Who in the World’ since 2009 and the inaugural ‘Top 40 Under 40 Men’ from Business Daily newspaper in 2011.

He is an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Nairobi and has published over 20 articles in peer-reviewed journals, as well as authored and contributed in several books related to pathology. Dr Kalebi resides in Nairobi Kenya with his wife and family of 4 children, and regularly travels to the various operations of the Lancet Group of Laboratories within Kenya, as well as Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.
