Dr. Alfred Karagu Maina
Dr. Alfred Karagu is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Cancer Institute of Kenya, a statutory body established under the Cancer Prevention and Control Act of 2012 to serve as the coordinating and regulatory agency for cancer prevention and control. He is a public health specialist with a background in clinical care, health services management, monitoring and evaluation, training and public health research.
He holds a Bachelors degree in Medicine and Surgery and a Master of Science in Health Systems Management and is a graduate of the Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Programme. He has a vast experience in program management in both the infectious and non-communicable disease prevention spheres having worked in various departments across the national and county government levels.
He is currently involved in establishing structures for the National Cancer Institute with a focus on enhancing access to treatment, improvement in quality and treatment outcomes and enhanced cancer data management. He is passionate about strengthening health systems to respond to the rising burden of non-communicable diseases in general and cancer in particular.
