Dr. Harish Nagaraj Co-Authors Landmark Study on Nuclear Medicine in Africa

Harish Nagaraj has co-authored a landmark publication in the Journal of Nuclear Medicine examining the status of nuclear medicine across Africa. The study provides an overview of expanding capacity, growing regional collaboration and increasing access to advanced nuclear medicine imaging and therapy across the continent.
Supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the multi-country analysis included data from 775 patients across 11 African countries, focusing on the clinical application of PSMA-PET/CT in prostate cancer care. The findings demonstrate the impact of advanced imaging in identifying previously undetected metastatic disease and informing treatment decisions, including significant changes to planned management.
The publication highlights the importance of continued investment in nuclear medicine infrastructure, training, and cross-border collaboration to support improved cancer diagnosis and care across Africa.
