Member Spotlight: Dr Irene Weru

KESHO congratulates Irene Weru, Head of Clinical Pharmacy at Kenyatta National Hospital, on her recognition among the Top 100 Kenyans in 2025 for her leadership and impact in oncology pharmacy practice.
Dr Weru has served at Kenyatta National Hospital since 2003 and currently oversees clinical pharmacy services, including oncology medicines and chemotherapy protocols. Her work has been central to strengthening systems for the safe handling, preparation and use of cancer medicines, contributing to improved safety and quality of cancer treatment delivery at the national referral hospital.
In 2025, Dr Weru also received international recognition through the Helen McKinnon Award from the International Society of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners (ISOPP), acknowledging her outstanding contribution to oncology pharmacy practice globally. She is an active member of several professional bodies, including KESHO and currently serves as Secretary of ISOPP.
KESHO celebrates Dr Weru’s continued leadership, professional service and contribution to strengthening safe cancer medicines use within multidisciplinary cancer care.
