Triple Negative Breast Cancer
Dr Nusayba A. Bagegni
Nusayba Bagegni, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Oncology, Department of Medicine, at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. She is an Associate Member of the Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center. She serves as the Breast Cancer Clinical Trials Leader and Associate Medical Director of Clinical Research for the Division of Oncology.
Dr. Bagegni earned her medical degree with research distinction from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. She completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. While at Washington University School of Medicine, she went on to complete a Hematology/Oncoloy fellowship, serving as Chief Fellow, where she received the Hanna Jean Khoury Outstanding Graduate Award. Dr. Bagegni is board-certified in internal medicine, medical oncology, and hematology. Dr. Bagegni specializes in the care of patients with early-stage and advanced breast cancer.
Dr. Bagegni has research interests focused on developing novel therapies for breast cancer and disease monitoring strategies. She serves as a Principal Investigator for several clinical trials, including Study Chair of the National Cancer Institute Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program (NCI CTEP) trial investigating a novel treatment approach for patients with advanced triple negative breast cancer.
She is a member of the Siteman Cancer Center Protocol Review and Monitoring Committee. Dr. Bagegni is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and American Association for Cancer Research (AACR). She is a panel member for the NCCN Anti-emesis Guidelines Panel. She is Breast Cancer Committee member for Alliance, HCRN (Hoosier Cancer Research Network) and ACCRU (Academic and Community Cancer Research United), as well as the Siteman Cancer Center Breast Cancer Equity Group.
Dr Njoki Njiraini
Njoki Njiraini is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at the Cancer Treatment Centre in The Nairobi Hospital.
She has been key in instituting multidisciplinary meetings, problem oriented research in the department, and streamlining patient care within the oncology clinics in the public and private sector.
Dr. Njiraini holds a bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Nairobi, a Master’s Degree in Radiation Oncology from the University of Cape Town, is a Fellow of the College of Radiation Oncology (FCRO) South Africa and a graduate of the Harvard POETIC Fellowship programme.
Dr Angela Waweru (Moderator)
Angela Waweru studied Medicine at the University of Sheffield. She completed her internship and core medical training at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals before joining the same NHS Trust for her training in Clinical Oncology, where she completed her training in 2015. She then spent just under one year working as a Locum Consultant in Clinical Oncology after which she relocated to Kenya. She currently works as a Radiation Oncologist at AKUH, N where she is the Vice Chair of the Haematology Oncology department and Section Head of Radiation.
Her main interests include the appropriate implementation of new radiotherapy technologies in the clinic and re-irradiation.
Dr. Waweru is also keen on promoting radiotherapy governance; she has been instrumental in forming radiotherapy safety committees, peer review meetings and service development projects.
She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists [Clinical Oncology Faculty] FRCR, Member of the Royal College of Physicians, MRCP. She is also a member of European Society of Radiation Oncology, ESTRO and Kenya Society of Haematology and Oncology, KESHO.
