SPEAKER PROFILES:
DR ANDREW ODHIAMBO
MBChB, MMed(Int.Med), MedOnc(UK), FRCP Edin, FCP (ECSA)

Andrew Odhiambo is a board certified Consultant Physician & Medical Oncologist at the Prime CancerCare Clinic – Nairobi. He is the Unit Head for Medical Oncology at the University of Nairobi (UON). Dr. Andrew holds a Master’s degree in Internal Medicine from the UON. He later did his Fellowship in Medical Oncology in the United Kingdom and is certified by the Federation of Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom (RCP-UK), The Association of Cancer Physicians (ACP) and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO). He is a Fellow of  the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh as well as the East, Central & Southern Africa College of Physicians.

He is the former Secretary and Treasurer of Kenya Society of Haematology & Oncology (KESHO). Dr Andrew is a member ASCO, ESMO & AORTIC. He serves as an expert advisor for local and international bodies i.e. MOH, Kenya Cancer Prevention TWG, and various international Cancer Treatment Guidelines Committees. He has published several articles on cancer in both international and local peer reviewed scientific journals. Dr Andrew has attended over 50 oncology meetings both local and international. He has made over 40 oral presentations and continuously supports Oncology Multidisciplinary team meetings in various top hospitals in Nairobi.

Dr Andrew was awarded the prestigious Business Daily Africa Top 40 under 40 men in the year 2017. He is passionate about cancer education and awareness especially through digital platforms. He has over 60 appearances in mainstream local and international TV, Radio and print media promoting cancer awareness. Key areas of sub-specialization and interest include Gastrointestinal cancers, Pancreatic, Liver  & Bile Duct cancer, Metastatic Breast Cancer, Lymphoma, Cancer of Unknown Primary as well as newer treatments i.e. Immunotherapy & Targeted therapy.

DR JERRY NDUMBALO
MD MMED Onc (SA) MBA

Jerry Ndumbalo is a Consultant Clinical and Radiation oncologist, Lecturer, and Researcher at Ocean Road Cancer Institute and MUHAS with over 15 years of clinical experience and is currently the Founder and First President of the Tanzania Oncology Society (TOS).

Dr Ndumbalo is a holder of a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Dar es Salaam in 2006, Masters of Medicine (MMED) in Radiation and Clinical Oncology from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa, in 2016, and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA-General Management) from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in June 2022.

With vast research interests in clinical research and global health, he has published over 15 articles in peer-reviewed international journals. He is currently serving as a Principal and Co-investigator on numerous projects, including Guideline development and implementation studies, Cervical Cancer and HIV (BMSF), Automated Contouring and Planning (AROMA-C), and Breast CHARTA study.

He has actively participated in and led several technical working groups, including the African Cancer Coalition (ACC), which partners with NCCN in developing Harmonised Cancer Treatment Guidelines for Sub-Saharan Africa. In this Coalition, he chaired the cervical cancer working group. He was a member in developing NCCN harmonized treatment guidelines for Esophageal, Gastric, Colorectal, Ovarian, Prostate, ALL, and AML. He also chaired the technical work to establish the 1st Tanzania National Cancer Treatment Guidelines in 2020. To ensure its utilization, he led ORCI/UCSF team to develop implementation strategies to increase the guideline uptake in Tanzania. He is a reviewing committee member for the Standard Treatment Guidelines (STG) and National Essential Medicines List for Tanzania.

Dr. Ndumbalo is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and was recently awarded International Development and Education Award (IDEA 2022). He is a member of the Africa Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC), serving on its Research Committee in 2020/2021. He also holds membership in the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO), the American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), and the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR). He is a board member of the Tanzania Non-Communicable Diseases Association (TNCDA).

DR FRED OKUKU
MBChB (MUK), MMED (MUK), HAMPT (UW, USA), FCP (ESACOP)

Fred Okuku is a Consultant Physician/Medical Oncologist and the current Head of the Solid Tumor and Private Patient Services, at the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI). He is a Research Investigator with the Hutchinson Cancer Research Institute-Uganda in Kampala and a Co-PI on the AMC 098 NCI-NIH, a Nelfinavir clinical trial in Kaposi Sarcoma patients at the UCI.

Dr Okuku is a Research Investigator with John Hopkins Program on Liver Cancer in Uganda. He is also a co-investigator on the U54 Lung cancer – HIV study a collaboration between Makerere University and Case Western University (CWRU), Cleveland and a local PI of a phase III, randomized, open-label, multicenter study evaluating the efficacy and safety of adjuvant giredestrant compared with physician’s choice of adjuvant endocrine monotherapy in patients with estrogen receptor-positive, HER-2‑negative early breast cancer.

Dr Okuku has accomplished a number of research projects both locally and collaboratively.

DR NJOKI NJIRAINI (MODERATOR)

Njoki Njiraini is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at the Cancer Treatment Centre in The Nairobi Hospital.

She has been key in instituting multidisciplinary meetings, problem oriented research in the department, and streamlining patient care within the oncology clinics in the public and private sector.

Dr Njiraini holds a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Nairobi, a Master’s Degree in Radiation Oncology from the University of Cape Town, is a Fellow of the College of Radiation Oncology (FCRO) South Africa and  a graduate of the Harvard POETIC Fellowship programme.
