Dr. Irene Nzamu, MBS is the Head of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at Kenyatta National Hospital and an Honorary Lecturer in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Nairobi. She was the first formally trained pediatric hematologist-oncologist at KNH and has led significant efforts to strengthen childhood cancer services in Kenya.
She serves as the pediatric oncology lead in the Focal Team for the Kenya National Cancer Control Strategy and is a member of the Ministry of Health Technical Working Group on Childhood Cancer. She has also served as Treasurer of the Kenya Society of Hematology Oncology (KESHO) and contributes to multiple institutional leadership committees at KNH.
In recognition of her distinguished service to child health, she was awarded the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) by the President of Kenya.
Dr. Nzamu’s work focuses on implementation science, health systems strengthening, and advancing evidence-based care to improve survival outcomes for children with cancer in low- and middle-income countries. She is also an upcoming researcher focused on pediatric oncology in Kenya.
